OUR MISSION
The Counseling Department exists to positively impact every Germantown High School student as he or she progresses through high school.

The counseling team consists of four grade level counselors, a College and Career counselor, an International Baccalaureate counselor, a Registrar, and a Secretary. Counselors are here to address both the academic and social/emotional needs of our students. Our doors are always open to assist students with academic intervention, schedule inquiries, personal/social concerns, transcript/records requests, college and career placement assistance, or just whenever you need someone to listen. Please refer to the “Meet the Counseling Staff” tab to determine your assigned grade level counselor.

During the regular school year, the Counseling Department is open Mondays through Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00p.m. We are located in V building. Summer hours may vary; please call the office before visiting campus during the break. To meet with a counselor or request an appointment, students may either call the Counseling Office, email their assigned counselor, or stop by the Counseling Office. To call the Counseling Office, please call (901) 416-0955 x. Please note that all off-campus visitors must sign in at M building before proceeding to our offices.

Interventions Available for Struggling Students at GHS

GHS offers a variety of interventions for students who are struggling academically. Here is a list of current opportunities:

Tutoring – For after school tutoring information, parents should contact your student’s individual teacher. Tutoring will be scheduled and provided by the teacher. Although, many teachers provide tutoring services, please contact your child’s teacher to confirm before making plans for tutoring.

Intervention - A built in period between 3rd and 4th periods is available for intervention. Teachers communicate directly with students regarding the need to attend intervention in their classrooms.

Grade Results for Credit Recovery:

Students enrolled in Grade Results have failed previous coursework and are in a computer lab every day for one period to work on recovery. They MUST work every day, or they will be removed from the class.
    • Grade Results students take a pre-test that determines how many units the student must master in order to earn a passing grade.
    • The better students perform on the pre-test, the fewer units they must complete. Students are encouraged to take their time on the pre-tests.
    • Students must maintain a notebook and notes on each unit. They can complete units at home or at school, but they must take notes for every unit.
    • After completing a unit, students take a post-test. This MUST be done AT SCHOOL! Tests cannot be completed at home. Students must earn a 70% (minimum) on each post test in order to move forward.
    • The recovery grade will NOT replace the previous seated grade, but it will appear on the transcript as a repeated course that has been passed for credit.
    • Grade Results CANNOT be used for new credit.
    • If your student is enrolled in a course through Grade Results, he/she can access the website at home to work on units. Contact Dr. Willingham for username/login information.

Project Graduation – This program provides courses in the evening
  • Courses can be taken for new credit or to make up failed credits. Each course meets 2 evenings per week for 2 hours.
  • Students can be enrolled in 4 courses per quarter and can earn up to 4 credits in one semester.
  • This program targets students who need new or repeat credits in order to “catch up” on graduation requirements.
  • Additional Information coming soon
